This two-day online course progresses to more advanced material, providing further options and challenges on the Mat for highly conditioned clients. The Advanced Matwork (Level 2) 6 hour course begins with a review of relevant Essential and Intermediate exercises, then students learn to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles to exercises that require a higher degree of strength, balance and coordination.

Total Barre™ Instructor Foundation Course (Hawke’s Bay)
Total Barre™ Instructor Foundation Course
The Total Barre™ Foundation Course provides the groundwork education for Instructors, enabling them to produce safe, effective and varied barre training programs that address the needs and goals of every client. The Course presents 11 specially arranged and selected segments – accompanied by timed selections of music – that serve as the template for each session or class and produce a balanced and complete barre workout. Participants are also introduced to the Total Barre™ Principles.
The dynamic Total Barre™ program is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, or for those who want to learn how. Instructors looking to bring music-inspired movement to their clients will love the 11 specially arranged and selected segments that serve as the template for each session or class.
Segments are accompanied by timed selections of music, each at a designated pace and focus on individual areas of the body or movement type. After completing this program students will be prepared to teach the repertoire safely, effectively and with confidence.
Our Total Barre™ program provides a balanced and thorough blend of theory, observation and practical experience to help you master the repertoire.
This course has no pre-requisites for attendance.
All students who complete the Foundation Course are entitled to an internationally certified qualification as a Total Barre™ Instructor.
There are no royalty payment requirements or restriction of trade regarding areas where Total Barre™ can be taught.
The Total Barre™ Foundation Course will include a template, choreography, music suggestions and lots of ideas to extend the program within your studio or clinic – we encourage your own creativity to complete the Total Barre™ template.
Students will receive a world class large manual, online training support, access to logos & imagery and ongoing support from head office in Canada as well as local support from the Instructor Trainer in New Zealand.

Fitness and Pilates Instructors meet a variety of clients who are restricted in their movements for a variety of reasons. Often, spinal flexion is contraindicated due to some specified concern. Learn how to modify Pilates exercises in a range of intensity levels to create workouts that achieve the primary goal of limiting spinal flexion while providing an effective full-body workout. Small handweights, Stability Cushions and the Flex-Band® exerciser are used to increase upper body resistance while further challenging the stability of the torso in a neutral alignment.

Learn programming to improve the strength and stability of hip, knee and ankle joints in both supine and standing positions in this workshop developed by the Merrithew® team. The use of a Jumpboard with the Reformer allows the hip joint to be closer to an anatomically neutral alignment when transferring forces from the soles of the feet up through the body, promoting good biomechanics of the entire lower kinetic chain. Increased spring resistance emphasizes strengthening of the arms, shoulder girdle and legs.

Based on the four key components of athletic conditioning: Activation, Conditioning, Endurance and Recovery, this workshop reviews traditional approaches to performance-based training, introduces and highlights newer methodology and concepts and explores how they can be combined with the STOTT PILATES® Movement System. Created by the Merrithew® Programming team, this workshop demonstrates innovative ways of structuring and designing a Reformer-based program for the everyday athlete and beyond.

When working with older exercisers, programs need to be adjusted, sometimes dramatically, to accommodate those with limited mobility. Using light hand-held weights, this workout, developed by the Merrithew® team, targets core strength and stability along with peripheral joint mobilization all from a seated position. The STOTT PILATES Principles form the foundation of the STOTT PILATES Movement System and provide the initial framework for programming. These concepts, when applied appropriately and strategically, will facilitate awareness and ensure optimal alignment as well as appropriate engagement of required muscles in clients. For the instructor, these Principles act as a reference tool that can be continually utilized when systematically evaluating and correcting static and dynamic alignment through any and all movement sequences. In each case, we'll examine what the Principle is, why it is important within a programming context, and how we can use movement to reinforce and integrate it into the system as a whole. This workshop, created by the Merrithew programming team, presents the Principles and shows how they are related to movement patterns crucial to optimal function and discusses their application to any type of activity as a platform for instructors at any level.

Most women are able to return to exercise four to six weeks after a regular birth or when they get clearance from their physician. Many of the exercises performed during the second and third trimester of pregnancy will be suitable now, but other exercises can be added to focus on reactivating and stabilizing the pelvic floor, transversus abdominis and obliques as well as developing lumbo-pelvic stability. Stability with mobility and explosive power are key elements of a great golf swing, but how can off-course training help? A targeted dynamic warm-up followed by specific conditioning exercises, can significantly improve golf performance and increase club head speed. Another new addition to the Merrithew® Athletic Conditioning Track, this golf-specific workshop features a warm-up that incorporates weighted Toning Balls providing added resistance, neuromuscular challenge and range of motion movements. These prepare the body physically, while directed breathing cues help encourage mindfulness, focus and awareness. The strengthening program that follows brings these elements together and facilitates increased quality of movement, providing the optimal balance of mobility and stability, crucial components in improved performance. This spirited workshop, one of the latest offerings in the Merrithew® Athletic Conditioning Track, includes a dynamic warm up designed specifically to prepare the mind and body for golf. It can be used for warming up on the range or at home before heading out to the course. Both the warm up and the mat-based workout that follows, prepare the body physically and neuro-muscularly to take on the challenges of the sport and improve performance while avoiding injury. Ideal for off-season training, this program helps maintain physical conditioning when time on the course decreases. The specific exercises chosen build on the dynamic movements in the warm up, increasing the essential body awareness needed to increase mobility with stability and strength imperative for a successful golf game.
