Fitness and Pilates Instructors meet a variety of clients who are restricted in their movements for a variety of reasons. Often, spinal flexion is contraindicated due to some specified concern. Learn how to modify Pilates exercises in a range of intensity levels to create workouts that achieve the primary goal of limiting spinal flexion while providing an effective full-body workout. Small handweights, Stability Cushions and the Flex-Band® exerciser are used to increase upper body resistance while further challenging the stability of the torso in a neutral alignment.

Statistically, more than half of the adult population will experience lower back pain, either acute or ongoing, at some point in their lives. Mat-based Pilates exercises can be a valuable tool in the prevention and care of lower back problems. Developed by the Merrithew® programming team in keeping with current research, this workshop focuses on exercise modifications that can be beneficial in a number of circumstances. Major focus is placed on creating awareness and endurance of the local stabilizers of the lumbar spine and pelvic region. Although individual injuries are not covered, generalizations for specific exercise prescriptions are reviewed as a foundation for program development. Exercise choices for the prevention of back injuries and scope of practice concerns are also discussed.

This interactive seminar, developed by the Merrithew® team, draws upon the most current medical information, exercise guidelines and research available on pregnancy and movement. Appropriate STOTT PILATES® Matwork exercise adaptations are explored and programming concepts for teaching small groups and private clients are discussed. Anatomical and physiological changes, risk factors and movement considerations are also discussed with an eye to providing a safe and effective workout throughout all trimesters and provide strategies for building new pre-natal programs as well as enhancing those already in progress.

Total Barre™ Instructor Foundation Course
The Total Barre™ Foundation Course provides the groundwork education for Instructors, enabling them to produce safe, effective and varied barre training programs that address the needs and goals of every client. The Course presents 11 specially arranged and selected segments – accompanied by timed selections of music – that serve as the template for each session or class and produce a balanced and complete barre workout. Participants are also introduced to the Total Barre™ Principles.
The dynamic Total Barre™ program is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, or for those who want to learn how. Instructors looking to bring music-inspired movement to their clients will love the 11 specially arranged and selected segments that serve as the template for each session or class.
Segments are accompanied by timed selections of music, each at a designated pace and focus on individual areas of the body or movement type. After completing this program students will be prepared to teach the repertoire safely, effectively and with confidence.
Our Total Barre™ program provides a balanced and thorough blend of theory, observation and practical experience to help you master the repertoire.
This course has no pre-requisites for attendance.
All students who complete the Foundation Course are entitled to an internationally certified qualification as a Total Barre™ Instructor.
There are no royalty payment requirements or restriction of trade regarding areas where Total Barre™ can be taught.
The Total Barre™ Foundation Course will include a template, choreography, music suggestions and lots of ideas to extend the program within your studio or clinic – we encourage your own creativity to complete the Total Barre™ template.
Students will receive a world class large manual, online training support, access to logos & imagery and ongoing support from head office in Canada as well as local support from the Instructor Trainer in New Zealand.

STOTT PILATES® Post-Natal Pilates 2hr Workshop | Wednesday 28 May 2025

Most women are able to return to exercise four to six weeks after a regular birth or when they get clearance from their physician. Many of the exercises performed during the second and third trimester of pregnancy will be suitable now, but other exercises can be added to focus on reactivating and stabilizing the pelvic floor, transversus abdominis and obliques as well as developing lumbo-pelvic stability. This gentle but effective workout, developed by the Merrithew® team, incorporates Toning Balls™ to get new moms back on the right track.

This two-day online course progresses to more advanced material, providing further options and challenges on the Mat for highly conditioned clients. The Advanced Matwork (Level 2) 6 hour course begins with a review of relevant Essential and Intermediate exercises, then students learn to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles to exercises that require a higher degree of strength, balance and coordination. Total Barre™ Instructor Foundation Course
The Total Barre™ Foundation Course provides the groundwork education for Instructors, enabling them to produce safe, effective and varied barre training programs that address the needs and goals of every client. The Course presents 11 specially arranged and selected segments – accompanied by timed selections of music – that serve as the template for each session or class and produce a balanced and complete barre workout. Participants are also introduced to the Total Barre™ Principles.
The dynamic Total Barre™ program is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, or for those who want to learn how. Instructors looking to bring music-inspired movement to their clients will love the 11 specially arranged and selected segments that serve as the template for each session or class.
Segments are accompanied by timed selections of music, each at a designated pace and focus on individual areas of the body or movement type. After completing this program students will be prepared to teach the repertoire safely, effectively and with confidence.
Our Total Barre™ program provides a balanced and thorough blend of theory, observation and practical experience to help you master the repertoire.
This course has no pre-requisites for attendance.
All students who complete the Foundation Course are entitled to an internationally certified qualification as a Total Barre™ Instructor.
There are no royalty payment requirements or restriction of trade regarding areas where Total Barre™ can be taught.
The Total Barre™ Foundation Course will include a template, choreography, music suggestions and lots of ideas to extend the program within your studio or clinic – we encourage your own creativity to complete the Total Barre™ template.
Students will receive a world class large manual, online training support, access to logos & imagery and ongoing support from head office in Canada as well as local support from the Instructor Trainer in New Zealand.

Fitness and Pilates Instructors meet a variety of clients who are restricted in their movements for a variety of reasons. Often, spinal flexion is contraindicated due to some specified concern. Learn how to modify Pilates exercises in a range of intensity levels to create workouts that achieve the primary goal of limiting spinal flexion while providing an effective full-body workout. Small handweights, Stability Cushions and the Flex-Band® exerciser are used to increase upper body resistance while further challenging the stability of the torso in a neutral alignment.

Learn programming to improve the strength and stability of hip, knee and ankle joints in both supine and standing positions in this workshop developed by the Merrithew® team. The use of a Jumpboard with the Reformer allows the hip joint to be closer to an anatomically neutral alignment when transferring forces from the soles of the feet up through the body, promoting good biomechanics of the entire lower kinetic chain. Increased spring resistance emphasizes strengthening of the arms, shoulder girdle and legs.
